SEO makes it super easy for your site visitors to find you on major search engines such as Google, Bing, or Yahoo! Using specific keywords, SEO optimizes and improves your search engine rankings. In order to fully optimize your website, you need to configure a number of settings.
Harness' SEO App is aimed to show you how to optimize your web pages.
Once you select the desired web page, hover over it to Edit. The Page Blank drop down menu will appear. Add your Page Title, Description, and Image here.
These two points are crucial to creating successful SEO Page Titles and Descriptions:
Will users click on my website and find what they are looking for?
Will the search engine correctly grasp my website content?
You can also opt-in to include the page in Sitemap and control Robots crawling.
The meta robots. txt, tells search engines like Google which pages in your website to crawl or index the page’s content.
Noindex: Tells a search engine not to index a page.
Index: Tells a search engine to index a page.
Follow: Even if the page isn’t indexed, the crawler should follow all the links on a page and pass equity to the linked pages.
Nofollow: Tells a crawler not to follow any links on a page or pass along any link equity.
Once complete, a blue check mark will replace the red exclamation point located next to the Page Title, indicating that the page is optimized.
To comply with Google’s guidelines, it’s best to keep your title around 60 characters. This is considered to be the optimal length and any additional text won't be displayed fully in the search results.
From a search engine perspective, your title should explain what that particular page is about. Ideally, your page title should consist of the primary keyword, a secondary keyword, and your brand name.
Think about the average user. Your title should be interesting enough so that people want to click on it, but it shouldn’t be misleading. Choosing a click bait title may attract users at first, but they will leave faster than they came to your website.
Action words in your title tags entice users to click-through!
Several examples often used in titles are: get, take, boost, learn, make, go.
These words allow users to know what type of content to expect on the page.
The word “learn,” in your title denotes an educational experience is awaiting. The word “get,” lets the user know that some kind of service will be available on the page or instructions on how to achieve a goal.
The page Description has length requirements; to be fully displayed, it shouldn't be longer than 150-160 characters.
Avoid stuffing the description with keywords because this can be interpreted as spam. Instead, try to include a cool call to action (CTA) that will motivate users to click on your website.
Turning the “Include in the sitemap” setting on will include the URLs of your pages in your XML Sitemap. Without this setting, the search engines won't be able to share this information with potential site visitors.
Fast & Furious, Baby
Search engines optimize fast loading websites; they have an advantage in the ranking algorithms and generate more user interactions (sales, newsletter signups, contact forms, submissions, etc).
There are several cases when you might want to use the Redirect function. Whether you’ve deleted a page or a post, or you just want to change the URL structure, just navigate to the Redirections section and click the 'Add' button to add a new one.
A window will then appear allowing you to include both the Old and New URLs. You'll be able to select the Redirection Type.
301 Permanent redirect is one of the most common redirects. Use this type to redirect a deleted or moved page permanently. This redirection type informs search engine robots that the page should no longer be indexed.
302 Found redirection is often used to make temporary redirects. Use this type if you want to reuse the primary URL in the future, but you want your visitors to go to an alternative page.
The Redirections added become active automatically. Click on the blue button to Publish/Unpublish them.
Just click 'Save' and you're done!
